This forms part of the College complex. It gives excellent scope to drama which features as one of our principal extra-curricular activities. Four different productions are put up every year. Often, the College ensemble is in attendance. Pride of place is our annual College musical - quite often a  Gilbert & Sullivan production.

Given its excellent facilities, our Auditorium is highly sought after, too, by other educational institutions and various local dance schools, as also a number of theatrical companies. Seating numbers just under a thousand; the acoustics are simply excellent and, recently, a new professional stage lighting system has been installed - thanks to the generosity of so many parents.

A   PROFESSIONAL   LIGHTING   SYSTEM

The project was completed in 3 different Phases:

Installation of a Rigging System:

7 iron beams [ x 34 feet ] have been fitted below the stage roof in order to carry the weight of the whole system. 6 rows of wooden spools in parallel are fitted on to the beams. In this way, the weight of the draperies, scenery, etc are distributed equally on 6 line ropes across a 14 metre span - the stage width. Trusses that carry the electrical fittings are operated by  4 hoists which, in turn, are supported by an ancillary structure. The trusses hang from 4 steel cables each rated 500 kilos.

Electrical Power Infrastructure:

Supply: 200A/Phase.
Stand-by, fully automatic (super-silent) generator: 250 KVA;
6 X 12 channel dimmers
Patch Panel: to connect luminaire sockets to dimmers
4 Harkness Hall  stage winches - to operate the trusses

The Required Luminaries:

A total of 114 units plus other accessories

 Installation of Rigging System

The Rigging System: the  weight of the whole system is supported  from the 7 iron beams purposely fitted into place below the roof of the stage. The scenery, flies and various  draperies hang from parallel line ropes, as well as the trusses that carry the luminaires.

Wooden spools: 6 rows of spools hang in parallel from each beam. Thus, for example, the 14-metre flies are hoisted by 6 ropes distributed venly across the stage width. Thus, the weight of whatever is uspended is also distributed evenly over the 6 line ropes.

6 gangways built just over the beams. These provide safe and easy access to every square foot area of the stage below.

An ancillary structure to the rigging system to support the 4 hydraulic hoists that operate the 14-metre trusses to which the various luminaires are attached. Each truss, in turn, hangs from 4 steel cables.

 Electrical Power Infrastructure

Power Switch Gear for the 200A supply

6 X 12 channel LSC Ipro Dimmers.

Andolite Patch Panel: A luminaire is plugged into a socket fitted on to the truss.  Each socket then feeds into the upper tier of the Patch Panel, and its corresponding lower tier feeds into the dimmers. The system allows for maximum flexibility of use for each luminaire.

Sound rack for the Auditorium amplifiers.

The 4 trusses above stage.

The 4 hydraulic hoists that operate the trusses.

Column trusses for side lighting.

Front of House Lighting: A gangway has been built across the hall, fitted between the aluminium soffit and the roof. 12 zoom spots [ Selecom- Acclaim Axial] are fitted there.

VISA 250 KVA supersilent stand-by generator.

Generator automatic control panel.

Fuel tank for the generator.

 The Required Luminaries

CYC lights [ 8 X 4 Selecon Aurora]. Cyclorama single weave: 15 X 4 metres.
